Applied physics

The physics is applied to ( fuzzy ) definition for experimental physics, partly also to theoretical physics. Its main characteristic is that they are not researched a given physical phenomenon for its own sake, but in the context of a technical or interdisciplinary problem. In this sense, the physics applied between a modern technology on one side and pure physics on the other side is considered.

Although there is an at most universities within the departments of physics or more Institute of Applied Physics, there are no relevant scientific groups or associations. The physics applied in this sense is not a physical discipline, but includes a variety of disciplines within physics.

Forum for applied physics are scientific journals such as the Journal of Applied Physics and Applied Physics Letters, American Institute of Physics, the Japanese Journal of Applied Physics or Applied Physics A or B. The issues discussed provide an overview of the range of topics.

Listed technological fields of applied physics, semiconductor elements, photonics, superconductivity, magnetic data storage, plasma physics, particle accelerators, Nanotechnology, Applied Biosciences, materials science and processing, as well as laser and optics.
