Apron stage

A Lever de rideau (French for drawing the curtain ) is in the French theater a short, little challenging play, which is listed as a prelude before the main part of a presentation, usually on the proscenium, that part of the stage, the front of the curtain is. The term was first used in 1826 in this sense.

Lever de rideau as especially Proverbes were played dramatiques, which are small pieces that explain proverbs or general principles of life and are illustrated.

Even today this term is used primarily as a title:
