Apure

Apure is a state of Venezuela.

The capital is San Fernando de Apure. With 457 685 inhabitants ( 2005) Apure Venezuela is the fourth smallest state by population.

Geography

The Llanos of Apure are formed during the Tertiary and Pleistocene. The sediments are hardly formed and there is sand Tonbänke that arose relatively recently from flooding.

Waters

Apure has numerous rivers. All are part of the Orinoco basin. The Apurefluss is the longest river in the state, with about 1000 km in length.

Population

The inhabitants are mostly Apures Llaneros who are Hispanic, and Native American. There are still living some Native American ethnic groups, such as the Pume or Yaruro.
