Aqrah

Akre (Arabic عقرة, DMG ʿ Aqra, Syro -Aramaic ܥ ܩ ܪ ܐ Aqra ) is a Kurdish town and also the name of a district in the Iraqi province of Ninawa. The population is 23 088 (calculated 2009). The majority of the population are Kurds. The city is since the second Gulf War in 1991 under the control of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region and was treated like a part of the province of Dahuk.

Akre is located at the foot of a mountain on a road from Arbil to Mosul.
