Aquae Cutiliae

Aquae Cutiliae was a spa in ancient Italy.

The place was in the territory of the Sabines between Reate (Rieti ) and Interocrea, near present-day Castel Sant'Angelo, in the valley of the Velino ( near Cittaducale ).

A small lake situated there ( Cutiliae lacus ), which was considered the center of Italy, wearing a floating island, which no longer exists today. The springing near the lake hot and cold mineral springs were famous for their healing properties.

The Sabine town Cutiliae (Greek Kotylia ) was apparently sunk to a small village, which lay on the territory of Reate in Roman times. At the lake there was the temple of Dis Pater and Victoria. The resulting to the sources Spa Aquae Cutiliae was, among other things sought by the Roman Emperor Vespasian, who died there in the year 79 AD, as well as his son and successor Titus two years later.

Today, occupies the site of ancient town of the modern Terme di Cotilia.
