Arab nationalism

Arab unity pursuit, the pursuit of the unit ( wahda ) of the Arab fatherland ( watan ), is one of the main concerns of Arab nationalism and pan-Arabism, especially its Nasserist and Baathist representatives. On the Libyan leader Muammar al - Gaddafi numerous attempts going to merge with other Arab states back. The possibilities range from the union of the political leadership of two or three States confederations and federations to the unitary state. Despite some dynastic aspects ( until 1958 ) the striving for unity has mainly an anti-colonial character. Virtually all projects failed due to the rivalry of their political leaders, in fact none was realized. Most of the projects came the announcement of a proposal out hardly.

The high point of this unit is striving between 1920 (first Pansyrischer Congress ) and 1990 ( unit in Yemen, but the failure of the Libyan- Sudanese Union and the Iraqi annexation of Kuwait ).
