Arabia Terra

Arabia Terra ( Arab land ) is a vast, cratered highlands region, north of the equator of the planet Mars.

Its center is located at 25 ° north latitude and 330 ° west longitude. The region has an area of about 6,000 km.

Arabia Terra is exactly opposite to the Tharsis region, with its powerful shield volcanoes. Perhaps Arabia Terra was lifted at the same time due to internal forces, such as the Tharsis region.

The entire region of Arabia Terra is littered with impact craters, the largest ( Cassini, Tikhonravov, Schiaparelli ) have diameters of about 200 km.

In September 2004 the Mars Express spacecraft was able to demonstrate increased levels of water vapor over the region. Obviously, located under the sandy surface larger amounts of water in the form of ice.

To the north of Arabia Terra extends the extensive lowlands Vastitas Borealis.
