Aracar

F6

Aracar is a stratovolcano in northwestern Argentina, east of the Argentine- Chilean border. He is on the edge of the Puna de Atacama, a high plateau east of the Atacama Desert.

The summit crater has a diameter of 1 to 1.5 km and contains a small crater lake. The volcano was formed during three cycles of eruption, dating back to the Pliocene. Several lava flows cover the deeper slopes of the volcano. There are reports of possible ash eruptions in the summit area on March 28, 1993, see, down to the village about 50 km from Tolar Grande. To date, however, it is unclear whether this was a breakout or merely dust clouds due to a rockfall.
