Arachova (Greek Αράχωβα ( f sg ) ) is a Greek town and municipality founded in 2011 community Distomo - Arachova - Andikyra in the region of Central Greece. Arachova is located about 160 km north- west of Athens and 12 km from the historic Delphi. In Arachova 4,180 people ( 2001 census). The city's name derives from the Slavic word for orah, nut ' from.
The area of the former municipality of Arachova forms the westernmost tip of Regionalbzeirks Boeotia and is bordered to the northwest, west, southwest and south by the Regional District Phocide with the community Delfi. In the north and northeast, the area borders the municipalities Amfiklia and Livadia, in the west and south lie the remaining municipal districts Distomo and Andikyra. Arachova is located inland on the southern slope of Mount Parnassus ( Parnassos ) at an altitude 963 m above sea level. The area is ( 1,560 m) dominates the southern slopes of Parnassos in the north and the north slope of the mountain Kirfi. Between the two mountain ranges, the valley of Delphi or Arachova from east to west and pulls open to Delphi to the plane of Krissa. The northwestern part of the area belong to the National Park of Parnassos. The area of Arachova has no direct access to the sea; the nearest coast is the Gulf of Corinth in Andikyra.
Being close to Arachova Delphi has long been a touristy city. In recent decades, it has also developed through the construction of ski resorts on Mount Parnassos one of the largest and most modern ski resorts in Greece.
Traditions and popular activities are still very well maintained and celebrated by the inhabitants. The highlight is the traditional celebration of the feast day of Saint George, patron saint of the city, which usually takes place immediately after the Orthodox Easter and lasts three days. Traditional dances, sports events in remembrance of the Battle of Arachova against the Turks, as well as food and drink for all guests are included.
Typical products of the village are olive, formatting Ella (a traditional type of cheese that is only available in Arachova ), raki ( grape brandy ).
By Arachova national road leads 48 ( Europe Strasse 65 ), which connects Thebes and Livadia in the west with Amfissa and further east with Nafpaktos and Missolonghi. Both the west running from Arachova National Road 48 and extending east of Arachova National Road 48 represent pass roads, which lead Arachova or after Distomo ( East) or Delfi (west).
