Arado Ar 199

The Arado Ar 199 was a German maritime education and training aircraft Arado Flugzeugwerke from the 1930s.

History

The Technical Office demanded in 1938 a modern naval trainer aircraft. The Arado Ar 199 to this was the design of a training aircraft for flight training complete seaplane crews. For their pilot training therefore two adjacent seats for teachers and students were provided during a radio students took place behind the whole radio equipment.

31 Arado 199 were built, 5 V- pattern and 26 series machines.

  • V1, WNr. 3671, D- IFRB, then NH AM (NH AN? ), E site Travemünde 1940, then Kemi / Finland 1943.

Originally, according to delivery schedule No.10 were required by January 1, 1939 65 machines. The pre-series consisted of 26 machines ( WNr.001 -026), the last of which 4 were built in France. They were mainly used in the rescue. The series was set, as the need for combat aircraft was a priority. Examples of series machines:

Some Arado Ar 199 arrived at the 10./Seenotstaffel in Tromso / Kirkenes in Norway to use

Construction

The machine was similar in the interpretation of the Ar 196, however, was developed based on the Arado Ar 79 Arado Ar and 96, but in all-metal construction, the basic structure of the forward fuselage section of a welded tube scaffold and metallbeplankten existed. The rear part were force-absorbing shells. The wings were also einholmigen leichtmetallbeplankt, while the movable control surfaces were given a fabric covering. For catapult exercises the appropriate fittings were available.

The Ar 199 had two all-metal float with strong gekeiltem bug which ended in a flat stage. Behind it was a keel, which was equipped with water rowing. She was equipped with an Argus As 410C. In order to achieve good-natured flight characteristics had the Ar 199 rigid slats and large rudder. The first four V- pattern had a VDM - adjusting air screw, the last and the series, however, an Argus Verstellluftschraube.

The Ar 199 was powered by a 410 series engine with 450 hp Argus As.

Specimens received

The V3 was recovered from the lake Wernj / Finland 1993/1994, then moved to the United States, then to Canada. Available are still middle piece and tail of the fuselage, engine, parts of the wings and float. They are still restorable in poor condition, but.
