Araeococcus
Araeococcus parviflorus
The Araeococcus are a genus of the subfamily Bromelioideae in the family Bromeliaceae ( Bromeliaceae ). The approximately nine species are native to Central and northern South America.
Description
The Araeococcus species grow as perennial herbaceous plants. You can epiphytic, or rarely lithophytic grow terrestrially. There are relatively small species with small funnel diameters and inflorescences, which are up to 1 m long. They form by Kindel small stocks or grow by runners race shaped ( Araeococcus flagellifolius ). The alternate and arranged in a basal rosette leaves form slender, higher than broad leaf hopper, which act almost like bins at Araeococcus flagellifolius. The coarse leaf blades are broad and at Araeococcus flagellifolius whip-like narrow ( specific epithet flagellifolius for whip -like leaf ) and end in a spike tip. The leaf margins are smooth or toothed, reinforced prickly. The leaf surfaces are covered with Saugschuppen.
Are branched, double - or mehrfachtraubige inflorescences ( inflorescences ) in which many flowers are usually arranged loosely upright to overhanging Blütenstandsschäften. Sitting at the inflorescences relatively inconspicuous bracts ( bracts ).
The stalked, relatively inconspicuous, hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry and threefold with a double perianth ( perianth ). There are three sepals present. The three free petals are green or purple. There are two circle each provided with three stamens. Three carpels are fused to inferior ovary.
The flowers formula is:
Are formed juice poor berries.
Dissemination
The neotropical genus of home Araeococcus ranges from Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia to Brazil, and Trinidad and Tobago.
One finds this species rarely found in private collections, but in some botanical gardens.
System
Adolphe Brongniart placed the genus Araeococcus 1841 with the type species Araeococcus micranthus Brongn. in Annales des Sciences Naturelles; Botanique, Ser. 2, 15, p 370. The genus name derives from the Greek word Araeococcus araios for thin and the Latin word for coccum berry from.
There are about nine Araeococcus species ( Luther, 2008):
