Aramon (Gard)

Aramon is a commune with 3821 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gard of the Languedoc -Roussillon region.

Geography

Aramon is located ten kilometers north-east of Beaucaire on the Rhône. The village is located downstream from Avignon, on the edge of the hills montagnette. In the near Aramon the Gardon flows into the Rhône.

History

Since the Neolithic period the hills were settled on the Rhône. In the 16th century the village belonged to Diana of Poitiers. Due to the success of the port many new houses and villas originated in the 17th century. Founded in 1703 François de Posquières the Ordre de la Boisson de la stricte Observance, had the assurance of the quality of wine to the destination.

  • Aramon Castle from the 13th century ( in the 18th and 19th centuries, rebuilt )
  • Church Saint Pancrace from the 12th century
  • Capitelles (small stone ) in the hills

Economy

Was a location for the chemical industry from the formerly agrarian village. In Aramon Sanofi -Aventis and Expansia produce. There is also a thermal power plant. However, agriculture and especially the wine play an important role for the local industry.
