Aranyaprathet District

Amphoe Aranyaprathet ( Thai: อำเภอ อรัญประเทศ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the eastern region of central Thailand on the border with Cambodia. It belongs to the province of Sa Kaeo. Aranyaprathet is a Thai town ( thesaban Mueang ).

Geography

Amphoe Aranyaprathet is the following Amphoe limited (as seen from the southwest clockwise from ): Amphoe Khlong the Hat, Watthana Nakhon and Khok Sung in the province of Sa Kaeo. To the southeast lies the border to Cambodia.

History

Aranyaprathet was originally a part of the province of Kabin Buri. On April 1, 1926, the province was dissolved, the two districts Mueang Kabin Buri and Aranyapathret were assigned to the province of Prachinburi. In 1993 Aranyaprathet was separated from Prachinburi, to become part of the newly established province of Sa Kaeo.

Refugees

Between 1979 and the mid-1980s were concentrated in the region of Aranyaprathet about 300,000 Cambodian refugees who had fled in the context of the invasion of Vietnamese troops and the threat of famine in Cambodia to Thailand.

The supply of refugees took place at that time by international aid organizations. Beneficiaries of the relief supplies were also fleeing to Thailand from Cambodia Khmer Rouge troops regrouped in the border region and led military attacks against the troops of Vietnam in Cambodia. Border crossing

Tourists who want to Thailand overland to Siem Reap (Angkor ) and continue on to Phnom Penh, use the Aranyaprathet border crossing. Thais often travel to Aranyaprathet to play in the casinos of Poipet to try their luck across the border.

Management

Aranyaprathet ( tambon) is divided into 13 municipalities that subdivide further into 111 villages ( Muban ).

Aranyaprathet itself has a city - state ( thesaban Mueang ), it consists of the complete tambon Aranyaprathet.

There are also 12 " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
