Aratinga

Sun Parakeets ( Aratinga solstitialis )

The macaws ( Aratinga ) are a genus of birds of the family of authentics parrots ( Psittacidae ). They are native to South and Central America between 30 ° North and 35 ° South. There are, depending on the author, distinguished 15-24 types with 53 to 57 subspecies.

These parrots have a long, graduated tail. The central feathers are elongated. The sides of the head are vollbefiedert, only the eye ring is naked. The beak is short and rather wide. Macaws are usually cavity nesters, but some species also breed in rock crevices.
