Arauca Department

The Departamento del Arauca is a province in eastern Colombia.

It is bordered to the north and east by Venezuela and on the south by the provinces of Vichada and Casanare; to the west lies Boyacá.

The amount of oil (30% of Colombia) and extensive cattle farming are the main industries. The under -developed agriculture relies on corn, cacao, yucca and beans. Continue to play fishing and cutting the forest an important role.

Worth seeing is the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy.

Administrative subdivision

The Departamento del Arauca consists of seven municipalities. The population figures are based on the 2005 census of the DANE.
