Arawa, Papua New Guinea

Arawa is a city in Papua New Guinea, in the autonomous province of Bougainville, the most northerly of the Solomon Islands. Arawa has 36 443 inhabitants ( census in 2000, 1980, there were 12,623 ) and is located about 990 km from Port Moresby, capital of Papua New Guinea, removed.

Arawa is now the third largest city of Papua New Guinea, in 1980 it was the eighth-largest.

Until the Civil War was Arawa capital of the province of North Solomons. Today is the administrative headquarters in Buka, which also houses the Parliament of the Autonomous Region and the seat of the President. In Arawa is now home to only the district office of the Kieta District.
