Arbatel de magia veterum

Arbatel de Magia veterum is the name of a magic book, which is supposed to be built around the years 1550-1560. The author of this book is unknown. Originally, this book should have consisted of nine parts, of which only the first part is available and known. In 1565 it was printed for the first time under the title " Arbatel de magia seu pneumatica veterum " and published in the so-called fourth volume of the writings of Agrippa of Nettesheim. A collection of fonts that do not come from Agrippa himself, but which were given into pressure from the then publisher either for economic reasons with Agrippa's name or actually were from the library estate Agrippa ( then you have the book have been created before the year 1535).

An edition from 1575 in Basel was entitled " Arbatel de magia veterum. Summum sapientiae study ". In 1655 the work of Robert Turner has been translated into English.

The bookseller and publisher Andreas Luppius was in 1686 out another printing of the book. Luppius ' edition contains a number of innovations. This first known part of Arbatel consists of 49 aphorisms and is or should be an introduction to the magic. Furthermore, it comes to the summoning and faith in the so-called seven Planetary Spirits. Each of these spirits is a name and special features associated with what is yet to be understood from the former medieval superstition.
