Arbesbach (river)

The Arbesbach, also called pea Bach or Sieveringerbach, is a partially open, partially guided as stream channel stream in the 19th district of Vienna Dobling. The approximately 4.3 -kilometer-long river is the main tributary of the Krottenbachs and is virtually entirely in the field of Sievering.

Geography

Geology

The Arbesbach has the character of a middle mountain stream as Wienerwald Bach. Due to the impermeability of the subsoil, the water flowing down the creek changed very rapidly by intense rainfall, which can lead to short but strong flood guides. The headwaters of the Arbesbaches is typically in the forest and is relatively steep with a strong vertical erosion.

Course

Headwaters

The headwaters of the Arbesbaches consists of several tributaries that flow in the area between the Dreimarkstein and the Latisberg ( Cobenzel ). The northernmost headwaters originate south of the Jägerwiese and between Latisberg and Vogelsangberg. These unite north of Hart grave lawn and take in the episode quickly to three source streams that the sky ( Pfaff mountain ) or spring south of the pipe Erwiese. The Arbesbach runs from the scope of this source streams along the left side of the road Sieveringer. The eastern side arm Gereutebach Springs, east of the Three landmark and runs along the spit path. He finally ends at that point in the Arbesbach where the creek enters on the right side of the road and runs between it and the Spießweg.

Middle and lower reaches

After the confluence of the Gspöttgrabens in Obersievering the Arbesbach is already in parts installed. From the Sieveringer road 223 it still runs though in a separate stream profile, but it is already überplattet into disrepair. A few houses below the Agnesgasse ( Sieveringer road 168) Arbesbach finally flows behind the adjacent houses line with the odd atomic numbers in the existing creek channel, which has a profile of 1.30 meters wide and 1.80 meters high. Originally ran the creek on this page to the Sieveringer parish church, then turned from behind the row of houses right to switch off the breaker alley in a diagonal course again on the opposite side of the street. Then the stream flowed on to the former Helenenbad Schatzlsteig the Windhabergasse and was subsequently along the existing footpath today between the Windhabergasse and Sieveringer road. In the height of the Börnergasse the brook course eventually left the main street of Sievering and turned down the Gräfweg existing today. Then the stream course, named after the brook Arbesbachgasse followed. The mouth was finally in the extended line of Arbesbachgasse below the former private lunatic asylum in the Krottenbach.

History

The name of the Arbesbaches goes back to the Middle High German erbiz or arwis ( pea). The name goes back to the bank vegetation, predominantly wild peas. In past times, the Arbesbach was a temporary wild mountain stream, which often led to flooding in Sievering due to the geological conditions of the Vienna Woods. Added to this was that the Vienna forest streams were often used for the removal of refuse and sewage. To limit the flooding and the odors, began 1894-1896 the vaulting of the Arbesbaches. First, the stream was built over a distance of 1,364 meters from the mouth to the Sieveringer road 83. 1908 already a project to extend the indentation occurred because the odor of the stream was too strong. However, the implementation failed due to the redemption requests of the residents. It was not until 1954-1955 the indentation in the ancient village of Sievering was continued to 983 meters to the road Sieveringer 175a. After the flood in the summer of 1959 took place in the sixties, the extension of the indentation to Agnesgasse.
