History

In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place told the eventful history of Austria.

The Arbesbach castle, called " molar tooth of the Waldviertel ", located on more than 900 m on a granite formation. It was created at the end of the 12th century in the middle of Arbesbacher forest at the former highway from Spitz to Freistadt and was built in 1190 by the Kuenringern line Weitra - Rappottenstein. 1593 was built as a replacement for the castle, the mansion Arbesbach a stately home.

Arbesbach arose at the beginning of the 13th century below this castle as an economic and pastoral focus of the rule. 1246 the parish Arwaizpach is first mentioned. The market rights of the place are attested from the late 14th century.

The parish church of St. Giles was built on the narrow side of the regular rectangular square. In their place, today's Baroque was after a fire in 1756 built ( 1761-1772 ).

In the southwest of the town situated Gallows Hill is located in a forest, a gallows, which was last used in 1728 for an execution. The gallows is built on a granite rock and consists of three stone pillars and a wall with circular passage.
