Arboga

Arboga ( German outdated: Årbogen ) is a town in the Swedish province of Västmanland County and the historic province of Västmanland. It is the main town of Arboga Municipality and has about 10,500 inhabitants. The name of the place is occupied for the first time in 1286 as Arbugæ and includes an old Swedish name for bend in the river, because of which it is located.

Since the Middle Ages an unusually strong beer was brewed in Arboga. The brewery is still to be found today as a museum in the city center. The beer Arbogaöl today it is marketed by a larger beer producers.

History

The place was in the 13th century, the city rights, but a settlement existed here long before that. In 1435 a meeting of the Swedish stands Group was held in Arboga, which is generally regarded as the first native Swedish Reichstag. At this meeting the miner Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson was elected Rikshövitsman, which represented the military equivalent of the Regent.

1561, King Erik XIV another stands the Reichstag in Arboga perform. He dictated the so-called "Article of Arboga ," in which the power of the princes was restricted in his favor.

1710 Arboga was Swedish capital for half a year. In Stockholm there was this year, the plague, and it was decided to relocate many offices and the royal Senate after Arboga. Before the officials could begin its work, the royal ships over a longer period in the harbor had to be quarantined.

Traffic

The city is now a transportation hub, since here hit the streets of Europe, 18 and 20. In Arboga keep the trains Mälarbana that runs from Stockholm to Hallberg. Southeast of the city lies the airfield Arboga.
