Arc de Triomf

The Arc de Triomf ( Triumphal Arch ') stands in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was built in 1888 for the Universal Exhibition as main gate entrance. Architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas was.

The arch is built in reddish brickwork in the newly - Moorish style. Its height is about 30 meters. The front frieze shows the stone sculpture Barcelona rep les Nacions (Catalan for " Barcelona welcomes the nations " ) by Josep Reynés. The opposite frieze shows a stone carving named Recompense, one of the first works of Josep Llimona. Both works cost at the time each 3,270 pesetas.

The upper part of the bow is decorated with the coat of arms of Barcelona and all Spanish provinces. This work comes from Torquat Tasso and Antoni Vilanova.

The Arc de Triomphe is located between Passeig de Lluís Companys and Passeig de Sant Joan, which runs in the direction of the Parc de la Ciutadella on the end of a wide promenade. This park was home to the 1888 World's Fair.
