Arc- sous- Montenot is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Arc- sous- Montenot Located at 650 meters above sea level, about 27 km west of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a depression at the edge of the Forêt de Vignory, in the transition region from the first to the second Jura plateau, south of the karst spring of Lison.

The area of ​​10.72 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Arc, which is partially vermoort and opens west to the Talniederung Lizon Supérieur, which seeps here in a sip hole. The western boundary is the ground level of the Côte Ribalet. In the north of the municipality of soil ranges on a wide plateau, which is largely covered by meadows. To the east, the municipality's area covers the slowly rising, densely forested plateau of the Forêt de Vignory and the Forêt d' Arc. Here the highest elevation of Arc- sous- Montenot is achieved with 727 m.

History

Since the Middle Ages Arc formed its own government, which was under the suzerainty of the lords of Chalon. The castle was demolished in 1674. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Attractions

The village of Saint-Laurent church was built in the 19th century. From the former medieval castle only a few remains are visible.

Population

With 230 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Arc- sous- Montenot one of the small communities of the department of Doubs.
