ARccOS Protection

ARccOS is a DVD copy process of Sony DADC. It was introduced in the spring of 2004 and has since represented to about 200 titles with about 100 million copies.

The copy protection is mainly based on the insertion of defective sectors in order to hinder the copying process. In this context it should be mentioned that advertised on the ARccOS page " full compatibility " is by no means guaranteed, since certain PC drives and also "normal" players have problems when playing ARccOS protected DVDs or by Hanger make a halt noticeable. The playing side of the DVD typically has a red color. One of the first films for which the copy was used was the movie Gothika. ARccOS is regarded as an effective, but not insurmountable copy.

Currently, this copy is used almost exclusively by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and occasionally by Lions Gate Films. He is included on almost all DVDs that appeared in recent years in this label.
