Arcetri
Arcetri is a district of Florence in the mountains south of the city center.
History
First mentioned in writing the place was 1083rd Galileo Galilei died in Arcetri on January 8, 1642.
Description
There are a number of historic buildings, such as the house of Galileo Galilei ( called Villa il Gioiello ), the Convent of San Matteo and the Torre del Gallo. The Arcetri Observatory ( Osservatorio di Arcetri Astrofisico ) is also to be found there. The church of San Leonardo in Arcetri is the main church in the region.
