The artillery system ARCHER, also Archer - Artillery System 08, is a Swedish self -propelled gun on a 6 × 6- wheeled vehicle.

Description

The Archer artillery system is an international project with the aim of creating a modern, self- propelled guns for the participating Scandinavian countries Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The system was developed by BAE Systems Bofors AB, which is also available as FH77 BW L52 - Archer designate. The core of the system is a fully automated 155-mm-L/52-Haubitze mounted on a 6 x 6 truck chassis. The 155 mm cannon is based on the Swedish Haubits FH77 / A. For artillery system also counts an ammunition transporter and a support vehicle.

The project was launched in the year 1995. Since the cannon at the cannon FH fell back 77, the system also received the names FH 77BD and FH 77BW. In 2004, two prototypes were made ​​: The system consisted of a gun, which was based on an extended version of the FH 77B, the (previously Volvo BM Volvo Construction Equipment ) was mounted on a 6 × 6- tipper chassis of Volvo CE.

The Archer system is air-transportable in the A400M Airbus. The self -propelled gun is high terrain and among other things, be able to drive through the snow cover of up to a meter in thickness, which is essential with respect to the use in Scandinavia.
