Archibald C. Niven

Archibald Campbell Niven ( born December 8, 1803 in Newburgh, New York, † February 21, 1882 in Monticello, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. From 1845 to 1847 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Archibald Campbell Niven was born in the beginning of the 19th century in Newburgh and grew up there. During this time he completed his preparatory studies. Between 1828 and 1840 he was Guardianship and estate Richter ( surrogate ) in Sullivan County. Then he was in 1844 Adjutant General of New York. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1844 for the 29th Congress Niven was in the ninth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James G. Clinton on March 4, 1845. He retired after March 3, 1847 from the Congress.

Between 1847 and 1850 he was district attorney in Sullivan County. He sat in the years 1864 and 1865 in the Senate from New York. He died on February 21, 1882 in Monticello and was then buried in the Rock Ridge Cemetery.
