Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Douglas

Archibald Douglas, (* 1390, † June 26, 1439 in Restalrig ) was a Scottish nobleman, 5th Earl of Douglas and Duke of Touraine and Guardian of Scotland.

Life

Archibald was a son of Archibald Douglas, 4th Earl of Douglas and his wife, the Scottish Princess Margaret, Lady of Galloway. He succeeded his father as 5th Earl of Douglas and second Duc de Touraine 1424.

Archibald earned the title of Earl of Wigtoun and was raised in France Comte de Longueville. Since 1424 he was a Scottish ambassador to France, and since 1437 Regent of Scotland for the underaged James II. He died of a fever and was buried at St Brides Church in Douglas.
