ArchiCAD

ArchiCAD is a CAD program for architects, which is developed by the company Graphisoft, since 2006 a subsidiary of Nemetschek.

The program is a special development for the construction industry. It is based on the so-called BIM (Building Information Modeling), which was formerly called Graphisoft Virtual Building: in a single step 3D model data, dimensions, material properties, and the like are stored. This planning can be generated in all phases of architecture as engineering, renderings, mass lists, area calculations, detail drawings, parts lists, and more.

Worldwide, more than 120,000 architects and engineers with ArchiCAD.

The current version ( 2013) is ArchiCAD 17, supported operating systems are Microsoft Windows 8, Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, (only in the x64 Edition) and Mac OS X 10.6/10.7/10.8, Intel CPU. The file format for standard projects is PLN. More ArchiCAD file formats are PLA (Plan Archive ) TPL ( project templates ), MOD (Plan Module) and PMK ( PlotMaker files). Interfaces are available for DXF, DWG, IFC and DGN files.

Since ArchiCAD 13 BIM Server is an integral part of the program package. With BIM Server and ArchiCAD users can work with Teamwork 2.0. Several users work at the same time from different computers on a project that is hosted on the BIM Server.

ArchiCAD to various additional products are available that expand the scope of services in certain areas.

Student Versions are available for free. The file format is not compatible with the commercial version. Created with the student version files are recognized by the commercial version, after which converts it temporarily in a student version.
