Archie Birkin

Charles Archibald Cecil " Archie " Birkin (* March 30, 1905, † June 7, 1927 in Rhencullen, Isle of Man ) was a British motorcycle racer.

Life

Archie Birkin came from a wealthy Nottingham family. His parents were Sir Thomas Stanley Birkin, 2nd Bt Hon Margaret and Diana Hopetoun Chetwynd. His brother Tim (1896-1933) was racing driver, two-time Le Mans winner and one of the Bentley Boys.

Birkin was killed on June 7, 1927 at the training to the Isle of Man TT, which was then held in the early morning hours during the current traffic on Snaefell Mountain Course fatal. He rebounded with a 500 - cc McEvoy in Rhencullen while trying to avoid a van that was traveling in the direction of Peel, against a wall and was killed on the spot, the curve on the A3 between Kirk Michael and Bishopscourt bares the name Birkin 's Bend.
