Archie Manning

Archie Manning, actually Elisha Archibald Manning III ( born May 19, 1949 in Drew, Mississippi ) is a former American professional American football player at the position of quarterback. He played for the New Orleans Saints (1971-1982), the Houston Oilers (1982-1983) and Minnesota Vikings (1983-1984) in the National Football League ( NFL).

College years

Archie Manning played in the years 1968-1970 college football for the University of Mississippi, also known as Ole Miss. During this time, he threw passes for 4,753 yards and 56 touchdowns. He latched on additional 823 yards. Despite these good results, the team was not very successful. However, Manning was elected to the 1969 and 1970 All- SEC Team ( SEC = Southeastern Conference ). His jersey with the number 18 is no longer awarded at Ole Miss. 1989 Manning was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

NFL

In the 1971 NFL Draft Manning was selected as the second player. With the New Orleans Saints, a team acquired the rights to him, as one who was vulnerable at the time. Manning was from this point on the face and the hopes of the Saints, but was during his time in New Orleans - do not change the lack of success of the team, despite at times outstanding individual performance (1971, 1982). Many critics say to this day that he could never fully reach its full potential due to the weakness of the team. In 1972, Manning in the NFC in pass attempts, attached passports and pass yards and yet the Saints won only two games. 1978 was elected to the NFC Offensive Player of the Year after he led his team for the first time in history to have a balanced annual balance sheet of eight wins and eight defeats Archie Manning of the United Press International ( UPI). In his 13 years in the NFL Archie Manning did in 2011 its 3642 pass attempts on with his wide receivers for 23 911 Yards space gain and 125 touchdowns. He also threw 173 interceptions in that time.

Life after the NFL

To date, Archie Manning lives in New Orleans. He stood up for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Although he has no formal role in the organization of the New Orleans Saints, but is a constant companion of the team. He mostly reported in the press about the team. Archie Manning has three sons, Cooper Manning, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning. Peyton Manning played 13 years quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts and broke in that time some NFL records. Eli Manning played just like his father for Ole Miss and in 2004 was drafted first in the draft like his brother. The San Diego Chargers but exchanged it directly to the New York Giants, where he sat as a quarterback. Both Peyton (Super Bowl XLI ) and Eli (Super Bowl XLII, XLVI ) won already the Super Bowl and were each awarded their victories as Super Bowl MVP.
