Architect of the Capitol

Architect of the Capitol (English Architect of the Capitol ) is an agency of the United States Congress, the incumbent for maintenance, operation, development and maintenance of the Capitol complex in Washington, DC is responsible. The complex features the Capitol itself, the office building of the Congress, the building of the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court building, the Botanical Garden, the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building, the power plant of the Capitol and a number of other plants. Among the office buildings of the Congress include the Russell Senate Office Building, the Dirksen Senate Office Building, the Hart Senate Office Building, the Cannon House Office Building, the Longworth House Office Building, the Rayburn House Office Building and the Ford House Office Building and the residence halls and schools of the Senate and House pages pages.

The Architect of the Capitol is one of the members of the Capitol Police Board, which is responsible for the Capitol Police, and the Capitol Guide Board, which is responsible for the United States Capitol Guide Service. The other members of the two bodies of the Sergeant -at-Arms of the Senate and the Sergeant -at-Arms of the House of Representatives.

Originally the office of architects has been awarded an indefinite period by appointment by the President of the United States. Following the adoption of a federal law was established in 1989, that the Office of the President with advice and consent of the Senate is occupied for 10 years, said the president must choose one of three candidates from a list that was previously developed by a congressional committee.

The Office includes ex officio membership of the following institutions: Capitol Police Board, Capitol Guide Board, District of Columbia Zoning Commission, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, National Capital Memorial Commission, Art Advisory Committee to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, National Institute for Conservation of Cultural Property and the United States Capitol Preservation Commission.
