Arctic and Antarctic Museum

The Arctic and Antarctic Museum (Russian Российский государственный музей Арктики и Антарктики ) is a museum in Saint Petersburg. It is housed in the buildings of the former St. Nicholas Church and was opened in January 1937.

The museum is the world's largest, which thematically focuses on the polar regions. The original church building was built in 1820-1838 by Avraam Melnikov ( 1784-1854 ) in the neoclassical style.

Collection

The museum's collection is presented in four sections ( Arctic geography and nature, exploration of the North Pole, economy and culture of the peoples in the Arctic; Antarctica ).
