Arctinus of Miletus

Arktinos of Miletus or Arktinos Milesius ( Ἀρκτῖνος Μιλήσιος / Arctic ː ː nos Milɛ sios / ) was an ancient Greek epic poet, from which the name is passed down exclusively, his works are completely lost. Usually his creative period 775-741 is valued BCE, Homer thereby regarded as his teacher. The ancient philosopher Phainias of Eresus but dated his lifetime the seventh century BCE, and indicates that he was inferior to the author of the Little Iliad, Lesches in a singing contest. Arktinos should have the kyklischen epics Aithiopis and Iliu persis written, also probably the Naupaktia. All these works are indeed lost, an outline of the first two works are a Proclus Chrestomathy attributed.
