Ardatov (town), Republic of Mordovia

Ardatow (Russian Ардатов, ersjan. Орданьбуе, Ordanbuje ) is a small town in the Republic of Mordovia (Russia) with 9400 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 100 km northeast of Republic capital Saransk on Alatyr, a left tributary of the opening into the Volga Sura. The city is not to be confused with the homonymous urban-type settlement ( and former city) Ardatow in the neighboring Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

Ardatow is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Ardatow was in 1671 as a village Ardatowo ( Ардатово ) first mentioned in 1780 and received city rights.
