Ardestan (Persian اردستان ) is an Iranian small town in the province of Isfahan, with about 16,000 inhabitants. It is located about 90 kilometers north of Esfahan and is the seat of the district of the same name.

History

Ardestan was probably founded under the Sassanids and was in the 10th century AD, a major city with a strong fortification.

Jame Mosque

The Jame Mosque of Ardestan was built in the 12th century on the remains of a square kiosk mosque also from the 10th century. The building materials were burnt brick. There are a total of a 4- Iwan Mosque. A magnificent Ivan leads to the covered with a brick dome prayer hall.

Mosque of Imam Hassan

In the mosque of Imam Hassan is the second Seljuk mosque in the city Ardestan. It emerged in the 12th century. The portal was formerly flanked by two minarets, one of which remained only get one though. It is perhaps the oldest portal with double minaret in the Islamic architectural history. The Seljuk mihrab is severely damaged.
