Ardumanish

Ardumaniš (alternatively be wrong Aspathines ), son of Vahauka, was a Persian nobleman of the Achaemenid Empire in the 6th century BC.

Conspirator

Ardumaniš was in the year 522 BC, in addition to Otanes Gobryas, Intaphrenes, Hydarnes, Megabyzos and Darius one of the seven conspirators against the usurper Gaumata. He was next to Gobryas one of the first, which was inaugurated by Otanes in the secret usurpation of the Persian throne by the magician. He dedicated it to a Hydarnes. During the fight in the royal apartments Ardumaniš was wounded by a lance thrust in the thigh. According to this, of him nothing further known.

Name

In the histories of Herodotus, the person is at the point of Ardumaniš named Aspathines (Greek: Ἀσπαθίνης ) called, with which the author is obviously a mistake, because in the Behistun inscription is without a doubt the correct name of the conspirator listed. Probably Herodotus, had mistaken him for a Persian dignitary named Aspačanā, son of Prexaspes who is immortalized as a royal " weapons carrier " at the grave of Darius I. Naqsch -e Rostam in a specific area. The reproduction of the correct names of the Ardumaniš making it the only all conspirators in which Herodotus was mistaken.

In the tradition of Ctesias, there is neither an indication of nor a Ardumaniš Aspathines, instead completely different and incorrect names are mentioned here.

Progeny

Descendants of Ardumaniš presented one of the families of the so-called " seven Persians " of the Persian aristocracy, the descendants of the seven conspirators (including the Darius ). Descendants of higher prominence can be attributed to him but not. The mentioned by Herodotus for the year 480 BC fleet commander named Prexaspes, son of Aspathines should have been a son of the weapons carrier Aspačanā.
