Arecibo is the name of a port city on the north coast of Puerto Rico.

Arecibo is a city and the site of a famous observation station for Ionospheric and the Arecibo Radio-/Radar-Observatoriums the NAIC. There you will find, in the remote inland areas of the island, the second largest contiguous radio telescope in the world. Here, the Arecibo message was broadcast.

In the vicinity of Arecibo is also a launch site for sounding rockets, from which since 1966 numerous sounding rockets of the types of Nike Apache, Nike Javelin, Nike Iroquois, Nike Tomahawk, Black Brant, Terrier Orion Orion and Taurus are started.
