Arendal Line

Arendalsbanen or Arendalslinjen is a single-track branch line of Sørlandsbanen in southern Norway. It runs between Nelaug and the city of Arendal in Aust-Agder province. Opened in 1908, it was electrified in 1995. In Norway, the route is also considered part of the Arendal - Aamli - Treungenbanen.

It is the only branch line of Sørlandsbanen, which is still in operation today. Operator of the route are the NSB, which mainly multiple units of type 69 for the connection to Oslo are used with change in Nelaug in passenger transport.

History

Today Arendalsbanen named range has been designed by the NSB local train and built in Cape gauge to connect Arendal with the major towns on the Nidelva. 1908, the first section was opened by Froland, 1910 was extended to Åmli and 1913 reached the track Treungen. The total distance Treungen - Arendal was then called Treungenbanen.

The branch line from Rise station to Grimstad was privately built, but later taken over by the NSB and operated as Grimstadbanen. On this branch line freight trains were driven primarily by timber and ore next to the passenger trains.

1935 reached the Sørlandsbane Nelaug that Treungenbane became a branch line. To be able to leave the Sørlandsbane as an interim solution in Arendal end, the section Arendal Nelaug was converted to standard gauge.

During a period of three years Arendal in southern Norway was the largest transfer point: travelers from Western Norway had here on the way to the capital from the steamer to the path change. Neither earlier nor later was there ever in Arendal as heavy traffic.

In 1986, the Arendalsbane received a serious competitor by bus route between Kristiansand and Oslo with several daily trips.

2008 was re-opened the station in the same district Stoa Arendal Arendal three kilometers from the railway station. It is located 900 m further north than a long closed station of the same name. The bus stop is near a shopping center.

Breakpoint Flaten

The breakpoint Flaten (Norwegian: Flaten stoppested ) is a breakpoint in the village Flaten in the community Åmli. The distance to Oslo is around 285 kilometers. The station building is a simple wooden hut. It was opened in 1910 and is located at about 140 m above sea level. NN. The platform is wheelchair accessible.
