Arete of Cyrene

Arete of Cyrene (c. 400 BC; † 330 BC) was a Greek ancient philosopher. Within the history of philosophy to count them to the Kyrenaikern.

The father Arete was the philosopher and the founder of Aristippus of Cyrene Cyrenaic school, her son was the philosopher Aristippus the Younger. Arete was taught by her father, and succeeded him as head of the school. She herself was the teacher of her son Aristippus the Younger. Their writings are lost and also the testimonies (ancient reports on the life and teachings) are extremely rare. The latter can be found, for example, by Diogenes Laertius, Eusebius of Caesarea, Clement of Alexandria, Theodoret, Themistius, Aelian and Strabo. Get a letter from her father Aristippus wrote on his deathbed at her. He's probably not authentic, but the author has perhaps used a really written letter as a template.

To only later (possibly by John Augustine Zahm ) invented information, it is probably the case of quotations, saying that for 35 years in the Attic schools and academies natural philosophy and moral philosophy taught, written 40 books and 110 students should have had.
