Argent (Band)

Argent were an English rock band that was founded in 1969 by Rod Argent after his previous band, The Zombies had disbanded.

History

In addition to Rod Argent (keyboards), the band originally consisted of Jim Rodford ( bass), Bob Henrit (drums) and Russ Ballard (guitar, keyboards). Ballard, Rodford and Argent shared the role of lead singer. The songwriter of the group were Rod Argent, Chris White (former bassist, producer and songwriter of the Zombies ) and Russ Ballard.

In early 1970 they released their debut album Argent. The song Liar, written by Russ Ballard, in 1971 a hit for Three Dog Night ( # 7 on the Billboard Hot 100). The piece was repeatedly gecovert, including in 1972 by Capability Brown.

The By Bruck for Argent came in 1972 with their third album All Together Now. The single release Hold Your Head Up made ​​it to the U.S. at # 5 on the charts. God Gave Rock and Roll to You from the next album In Deep ( 1973) was the early 1990s, a hit for Kiss.

1974 Ballard left the group to start a solo career. There came John Verity (guitar, vocals ) and John Grimaldi ( guitar). After two more albums and a film that was never released to Argent broke up in 1976. Rodford, Henrit and Verity made ​​for a short time as the " Phoenix " further before Rodford and Henrit went to the Kinks.

Argent in 2010 joined the original lineup back on several times.
