Argenteus

The Argenteus is a Roman silver coin (German as " Silberling " ), the n in the year 294 AD during the monetary reform of Emperor Diocletian ( 284-305 ) with reference to the silver denarius of the 1st century AD was introduced.

It was prescribed by law, the weight on 1/96 pound set ( = 3.41 g). However, most Argentei were underweight pronounced. Initially, 25 of Argentei a Aureus, a Argenteus had the equivalent of 8 Folles.

The argenteus was the Great replaced by 320 AD under Constantine by the siliqua.
