Argentina women's national field hockey team

The Argentine national women's hockey (nicknamed Las Leonas, dt: The lionesses ) represents Argentina in international hockey tournaments. The lionesses gathered so far at the World Championships, Pan American Games, Olympic Games and at the Champions Trophy over 20 medals.

History

Hockey came with English settlers in the early 20th century to Argentina. The first women's team was officially established in 1909. In 1997, Sergio Vigil, a former national player, named the coach of the Las Leonas. Under his coach shaft reached them their first world title, her first Olympic medal, her first medal at the Champions Trophy. As a result, there has been a rapid growth in popularity.

Origin of the nickname
