Argentine austral

The Argentine Austral ( currency symbol: ₳; Code: ARA) was from 15 June 1985 until the end of 1991, the currency of Argentina. It was divided into 100 centavos. The currency replaced the previous Peso Argentino 1:1000.

1985 coins for ½, 1, 5, 10 and 50 centavos were minted. They showed different animals or the coat of arms of Argentina on the back. 1989 coins were issued for 1, 5 and 10 Austral, show the famous houses of the Argentine history. Later coins of 100, 500 and 1000 Austral were minted due to inflation, they all showed the coat of arms of Argentina.

As banknotes in 1985 provisionally peso Argentino bills were used, into which the value was printed in Austral. Later own notes were printed in denominations of 1 to 500,000 Austral.

On 1 January 1992, the new Argentine peso replaced the Austral from, in relation 10,000 Austral = 1 peso.
