Argentine Chamber of Phonograms and Videograms Producers

The CAPIF (Abbreviation for: Cámara Argentina de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas ) is a collecting society of Buenos Aires, which represents the rights of the copyright of those composers, lyricists and publishers of musical works in Argentina, a member of the CAPIF are. The CAPIF is a member of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry ( IPPI ) and is a non- profit organization ( NPO ), which is integrated into multinational and national labels.

The CAPIF was founded on 25 June 1958, and is now managed by Javier Delupí. On 24 January 2012, the website was hacked by Anonymous CAPIF as part of the protest against SOPA and PIPA and put out of action for several hours.

Certifications

The CAPIF awarded for the first time in January 1980 the gold or platinum status for a particularly high number of records sold. Between 1980 and 2000, the following sales figures for certification with the gold or platinum status were necessary:

Longplays and cassettes ( albums) ::

  • Gold: 30,000
  • Platinum: 60,000
  • Diamond: 500,000

Compilations:

  • Gold: 100,000
  • Platinum: 200,000

Since 1 January 2001, only albums are still excellent. Since 2001, the following sales are crucial for an award:

  • Gold: 20,000 units
  • Platinum: 40,000 units
  • Diamond: 250,000 units

Music - DVDs must be sold at least 4,000 times in Argentina in order to obtain gold, platinum are sold 8,000 DVDs needed. In digital media, ie music downloads 10,000 Downloads must be achieved to be awarded gold, platinum are 20,000 downloads necessary in Argentina to be excellent.
