Argentine legislative election, 2009

The parliamentary elections in Argentina took place in 2009 on June 28th of the year.

Were replaced half the seats in the House of Representatives (128 of 256 seats) and a third of the seats in the Senate (24 of 72 seats). While the House of Representatives elections were conducted across the country and at the same time, the Senate elections were held only in eight provinces that their Senate seats renewed completely after a certain 2001 by Los cycle pattern.

The elections were brought forward by the Government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner of the third week of October to June 28, when the basic financial crisis was stated as of 2007, which also Argentina was affected. Electioneering

The election campaign was dominated mainly by disputes between the ruling Peronists of FPV and the two strongest opposition blocks: the Propuesta, Republican ( conservative- liberal ), which under the symbol Union Pro together with a part of the right wing of the Peronists, the Unión Celeste y Blanco took under the leadership of Francisco de Narváez, and the Acuerdo Civico y Social, an alliance of ARI, socialists and UCR. A collaboration between the two blocks took place only very limited.

Result

The ruling coalition FPV suffered heavy losses in the election. From a baseline of 45 percent in 2007, it fell to 31 percent in 2009 and thus were only slightly strongest force. However, the election results are not fully comparable, since some previously allied to the FPV region Aldi visions of the PJ had in 2009, the opposition bloc Unión -PRO and the dissident PJ connected. Also had the FPV benefited from the support of some region Aldi visions of the UCR 2007, which in 2009 placed themselves again as a clear oppositional.
