Argentine National Congress Palace

The Argentine Congress Palace (Spanish Palacio del Congreso de la Nación Argentina) in Buenos Aires is the seat of the Argentine National Congress.

The building is in Balvanera district in the Plaza del Congreso. The Avenida de Mayo connects the plaza with the Casa Rosada, the seat of the President of Argentina. The building complex with an area of 12079.60 m² is bounded by the streets Avenida Rivadavia, Combate de los Pozos, Avenida Entre Ríos and Calle Hipólito Yrigoyen.

The building was designed by the Italian architect Vittorio Meano and completed by the Argentine architect Julio Dormal. It was built in 1898-1906 and inaugurated the same year. Nevertheless, details have been completed only gradually until 1946. The sculptress Lola Mora graced the halls interior and the exterior sides with numerous bronze allegories. The congress palace was included in the list of National Historic Monuments of Argentina.

The National Congress was about the time too small for its intended purpose and was therefore in 1974 by an annex for the offices of MPs extended ( see picture below ).
