Arghakhanchi District

Arghakhanchi is one of 75 districts in Nepal in Lumbini zone. At the 1991 census it had a population of 180 884, 2001 208 391 and 2011 197 632 were. Two -thirds of the district area are in the range of Mahabharat, a third in Siwalik Mountains.

History

The name was based on two principalities, Argha and Khanchi that existed until its annexation by the Kingdom of Gorkha in 1786. They belonged to the group of so-called Chaubisi Rajya, twenty-four principalities that existed in the catchment area of the Gandaki in the region.
