Arhoolie Records

Arhoolie Records is an American record label, founded in 1960 by the ( German -born ) Chris Strachwitz and operated to this day.

Although the record company was originally founded by Strachwitz to record hitherto unknown "down -home " blues musicians such as Lightnin ' Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Juke Boy Bonner and Mance Lipscomb and their music accessible to larger " white " of buyers to make, he expanded the program soon to reissues of blues recordings from the pre-war period ( sub-label "Blues Classics" ) and gospel music, Old- Timey Country & Western (white ) Cajun and (black ) zydeco recordings from Louisiana and Mexican -American "Roots" music ( Tejano / Conjunto music).
