Arinthod

Arinthod is a commune with 1143 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Jura department in the Franche -Comté. It is capital of the canton of the same name and is part of the Local Government Association, Petite Montagne.

Geography

Arinthod located in the southwest of the department of Jura, 90 kilometers northeast of Lyon, about 50 kilometers northwest of Geneva and 17 kilometers northwest of Oyonnax, between the neighboring communities Chisséria in the south, Dramelay in the northwest and Cézia in the east. The Valouse flows west of the town center by the municipality. Approximately 41.65 % of its territory is covered by forest. The hamlet Vogna and Neglia belong to the community.

History

Arinthod was born in 1155 first mentioned. The village was built on the edge of the ramparts of the castle of Dramelay whose ruin is situated in the municipality of Dramelay. Your Donjon can still be visited. The Grand Master of the Knights Templar, Bernard de Tromelai (1100-1153) lived there.

1793 Arinthod received the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ). In 1822 the hamlet Vogna (then Vognat ), which in 1821 had 164 inhabitants incorporated.

Attractions

  • The church of Notre -Dame de l' Assomption built in the 16th century. It was entered into the Register of Monuments historiques additional (historical monuments ) 1991.
  • In the hamlet Vogna is the megalithic Pierre Enon.

Economy and infrastructure

In the north of Arinthod the industrial area is Zone d' activité de la Forêt, in the west is an industrial area, where the company Smoby operates a manufacturing facility. Major lines of business in Arinthod are forestry and breeding of domestic animals and edible fish. There is also a dairy cooperative on the ground, make cheese.

Traffic

From 1901 to 1939 Arinthod was on the railway line La Bifurcation - Arinthod the railroad company Chemins de fer du Jura Vicinaux. The line was a branch line Lons - Saint -Claude. The station building has not been maintained.

The town is crossed by the road department D109, D3 leads to the east of the village on the D109.
