Aristarchus of Thessalonica

Aristarchus of Thessalonice is regarded as one of the seventy disciples, and is mentioned several times in the book of Acts. He came from Thessalonice, today Thessaloniki, and accompanied Paul on his third missionary journey. In Colossians 4:10 Paul calls him his fellow EU. Maybe he accompanied Paul and later to Rome. According to tradition Paul had used him as a bishop in Thessalonice, another tradition sees him as Bishop of Apamea on the Orontes; for both, there is no reliable evidence, nor for suspected decapitation under Emperor Nero.

Aristarchus is venerated as a saint; his feast day is August 4.
